Taqueria Cuernavaca Information

Tucked along Ventura Boulevard in Oxnard, Taqueria Cuernavaca is one of those spots that locals seem to stumble upon once and then keep coming back to without much hesitation. The location at 1801 Ventura Blvd A makes it easy to swing by whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch or settling in for a relaxed dinner, and the steady flow of customers says a lot about its reputation in the neighborhood.

The menu leans heavily into traditional Mexican street food, and that’s exactly where it shines. Tacos are the obvious highlight, served on soft corn tortillas with generous portions of meat that feel anything but skimpy. The carne asada has a nice char without being dry, while the al pastor carries that subtle sweetness you’d expect, balanced with a bit of smoky depth. If you’re the type who likes variety, the menu offers plenty of options, from burritos and quesadillas to tortas packed with layers of flavor. It’s not an overly complicated lineup, but that’s part of the appeal-it focuses on doing the basics really well.

One thing that stands out after a visit or two is how consistent the food is. Whether you stop by during a busy weekend rush or a quieter weekday afternoon, the quality doesn’t seem to dip. That kind of reliability is something regulars often mention in reviews, and it’s easy to see why. The salsas, for example, are fresh and have a noticeable kick without overwhelming the dish, which adds to the overall experience.

The atmosphere is casual and unpretentious, more in line with a neighborhood taqueria than a polished dining destination. Seating is simple, and the focus is clearly on the food rather than decor. That said, the space feels welcoming enough, and the staff tends to keep things moving efficiently, which is appreciated when it gets crowded. Service is generally friendly, even during peak hours, though it can occasionally feel rushed when there’s a long line forming.

From a local perspective, Taqueria Cuernavaca fits right into Oxnard’s diverse food scene. It doesn’t try to reinvent Mexican cuisine or present itself as anything overly trendy, and that authenticity is exactly what makes it worth visiting. Prices are reasonable for the portion sizes, making it a solid choice for both quick bites and satisfying meals.

What People's Say About Place

My husband got a quesadilla and I got fajitas. We were blown away by how good everything was. The prices were good, serving size was good and the food itself was AMAZING. Service was also friendly and fast. We live far away and are already trying to find a good reason to come back.

Great tacos. Menu change with price increase. However, this one is worth it. Tacos are larger and the shrimp was so flavorful and perfectly cooked. Decor-wise nothing traditional about the place but this is not what this great establishment is about; its casual dining with great food. I have been here a couple of times in the past and was satisfied with their offering. It's consistent, good ingredients and a clean, if not sterile atmosphere. I will always go back to this place for a quick eat in the run

Place was decent overall. I prefer the Ventura location on the avenue for the food & salsas. This one is very clean though and the staff is very app to clean tables and trash areas which is nice. Food was pretty good, salsas are basic. They do have a self serve salsa bar which is cool. Prices are decent as well. One thing I did really enjoy and will return exclusively for this. The fresh mango drink they have is amazing. Very refreshing & not too sweet. It’s a bummer they don’t give refills on it, unfortunately they have to charge you for a whole extra drink for more. Great spot to eat and hang out inside and outside.

Good call-in pickup place. I had Alhambre Especial - was good. Not a fancy place but decent quick eats.

Very good, fresh food. Leticia was friendly and helpful. She had the kitchen make up a pico de gallo (no chilis) for my wife, who cannot tolerate any heat. We had carne asada burrito, shredded chicken tosada (not on menu), guacamole, and a jamaica. I tried all the salas, all very good. Food came out fast, despite being busy. Burrito portion size was a smaller what I experience at other places. Tosada was generous and came all the fixings, including sour cream and avocado. Highly recommend. Plan to revisit.

I order the carne asada burrito, carne asada and carnitas tacos and they were all very good. The food tasted fresher than other taquerias. I liked how they labeled the salsas from mild-hot. The restaurant was clean. The food is taken to your table. Good customer service. Its interior design was nice and modern with a relax atmosphere.

I didn’t know what to think about this place because it is pretty unassuming, but the food was amazing and the salsa bar if you’re hungry and want Mexican food just go here. Only bummer is there’s no margaritas.

I had the veggie burrito smothered with green sauce. Fresh huge chunks of avocado inside. So delicious. My new favorite place in oxnard!
